Hooray. America has *finally* lifted the absurd ban on HIV+ people travelling across their sacred borders. At the same time they are increasing their spending on fighting the disease in the developing world. Pink News
Perhaps he should be focussing his efforts closer to home where the infection rate amongst black Americans is still alarmingly high.
“AIDS in America today is a black disease,” Phill Wilson, founder and CEO of the institute, told CNN. “2006 CDC data tell us that about half of the just over 1 million Americans living with HIV or AIDS are black.”
Black people represent only about one in eight Americans, but one in every two people living with HIV in the United States is black, states the report, titled “Left Behind — Black America: A Neglected Priority in the Global AIDS.”

I must be living under a rock. I’ve seen a lot of things but I’ve never heard of the Tranny Olympics before. And now I discover that this year will see the seconf outing of this prestigious event.
While there won’t be as much pressure on the contestants, there will be plenty of friendly competition at the second annual Tranny Olympics on August 9th.
Last year’s event saw 70 drag king and queens sprinting down Hoxton Street, stopping the traffic as they raced for Olympic medals gold, silver, bronze, and glitter.
“This year is going to be bigger and better,” Ronan McNern, one of the night’s organisers, told PinkNews.co.uk.
“It’s all very DIY and the first time we were learning along the way.”
With events like a 100m sprint, pin the cock on the tranny and guess the trannies weight, this sounds like fun. It’s at the Macbeth Pub in Hoxton,Pink News
According to the UN Agency, UNAIDS, the AIDS epidemic has stabilised after a peak in new infections in the late 90s. It does warn though that governments will still need to put large amounts of money aside for AIDS as patients live longer.
”We’ve achieved more in the past five years than in the previous 20 years,” said Peter Piot, the agency’s executive director. ”But if we relax now, it would be disastrous. It would wipe out all of our previous investments.”
UNAIDS estimates the number of AIDS case worldwide at 33 million; its previous estimate of 40 million was revised last year because of changes to how it counts cases.
Countries in sub-Saharan Africa including South Africa, Botswana and Swaziland, remain the center of the AIDS epidemic. The region has about 67 percent of all people infected with HIV and 72 percent of all AIDS deaths.
