Jamaican gay rights activist seeking asylum in Canada
A prominent Jamaican gay rights activist is seeking asylum in Canada. He has been a victim of homophobic abuse in the past. A year ago he was one of three gay people surrounded by an early mob threatening to kill them. They hid in a pharmacy for over an hour until police could escort them to safety.
International human rights organisations have described Jamaica as one of the most homophobic places in the world.
