Gay aim: abolish the family
Advertising Standards Authority (UK) has criticised an advert by the Christian Congress for Traditional Values, ruling it could be inflammatory. The advert features a man, woman, boy and girl and the text “Gay aim: abolish the family”. The authority has said that it is increasingly the case that the modern family doesn’t conform to that structure.
“We considered the statement and the way it appeared was likely to cause offence both to the mainstream gay community and supporters of equality,” said an ASA spokesman.
In their defence, The Congress… (whatever) citing some ancient gay organisations’ manifestos from the 70s making the claim that the traditional family unit was anti-gay. From the GAY LIBERATION FRONT MANIFESTO - LONDON 1971:
The oppression of gay people starts in the most basic unit of society, the family, consisting of the man in charge, a slave as his wife, and their children on whom they force themselves as the ideal models. The very form of the family works against homosexuality.
Goodness, these Christians are quick to respond. Shame their advert is like so 1970s and thankfully not allowed.
